Present Scenario of Vending Industry

Although vending machines have been in existence for quite sometime, this industry had a very tough time during 1990’s. Inflation in 1990 affected this industry adversely. The convenience of getting merchandise in return to depositing coins disappeared as prices of products skyrocketed.

Manufacturers reacted to this problem in two different ways- introduction of debit cards and dollar bill acceptors. Debit cards were first introduced in 1985 and this eliminated the need to carry cash. Merchandise dollar bill acceptors also gained popularity by late 1990’s.

Besides these significant changes took place in vending industry due to changes in the society and technological advancements. Other trends in 1990’s include increased use of plastic beverage bottles in vending machines. The main reasons for this being sudden switch of soft drink makers towards large bottles for dispensing through vending machines. Other innovations during this period include coupon, debits and credit card accepted machines. Glass front vending machines showcasing drinks and branded products also gained popularity during this period.

Another most significant issue that affected vending industry during 1990’s was introduction of new currency. All these factors helped vending industry to gain popularity across the globe. Towards the end of 1900, vending machine industry entered a completely new era.
